Clayton M. White

   Biography

Clayton M. White, born in 1936, is an Emeritus Professor of Zoology in the Department of Integrative Biology and the Curator of Ornithology, Brigham Young University. In addition to his affiliation with various universities and government agencies, he was a former two-term director of The Peregrine Fund and has been on the board of directors or a scientific advisor for five other organizations. He served a five-year term on the advisory panel of the Division of Polar Programs for the National Science Foundation, dealing with both Arctic and Antarctic issues. He was editor of the journal Raptor Research for a 10-year period. He served as an expert witness for the Exxon Valdez Alaskan oil spill and for numerous Alaskan other projects. He is most grateful that his family has been involved in his life. He regrets he has not been able to share with his parents over the past 43 years through leisurely talk around the dinner table their trails, and his trails and those of his family, whom they never knew. Recently, on a trip to the Amazon Basin with his wife and two grandsons, one grandson asked him why he had a “beer belly” when he did not even drink beer. All he could say was, “I guess I am just lucky.” Luck has been a major player in his life.
